KARTIKEYA OR SKANDA WAS BORN FROM FIRE GOD

Indra rescues Devasena, Swaha meets Agnideva, the Birth of Skanda, His fight with Deities, and His marriage with Devasena

I was amazed to go through the story of Skanda: Kartikeya whom we all comprehend as the son of Lord Shiva. Do you all know that he was once born from Agnideva or the Fire god? Later he was regarded as the Son of Lord Shiva: Lord Rudra. Here in my post, I will give an explanation for the birth of Skanda, his fight with Indra and different deities, and his marriage to Devasena.

During those old-time, all the demons used to defeat the deities easily. Seeing the frequent death of his army, Indra determined to have a deserving and brave commander-in-chief for his army who could triumph over the demons. Distressed Indra went in the direction of Manasa Mountain and heard the outcry of a lady. He saw a demon named Keshi who was attempting to abduct that lady forcefully. Indra defeated the demon and rescued the lady from him. Indra then asked about her identity. The female was Devasena or Devayanai; the daughter of Lord Prajapati Daksha.

She informed him, "My sister Deityasena has already chosen Keshi and went along with him. I in no way preferred this demon and instead, desire a courageous husband for me who will be hard to conquer." Since Indra had saved her from the Demon, she asked him to be her husband. Indra's mother Aditi was also the daughter of Daksha. Hence he denied her proposal, as in relation she was a cousin sister of him. He then determined to find a mighty husband for Devasena, who would be the commander in chief of Indra's army and would be acknowledged as 'Devasenapati'.

After discussing with Lord Brahma, Indra went to the hermitage of Rishis where yajna was being performed by Vashistha and all others. Narada and other deities were also there. Rishis achieved fire sacrifice rituals there. whilst distributing Havisha among all of them, the fire god or Agni noticed the fascinating wives of Saptarishis there. He was consumed by lust. He wished to intimate with all of the seven sage's wives. Since the fire god could not fulfill his desire he went to the forest to end his life. Daksha had a daughter named Svaha or Swaha. She had wished for Agni as her husband for a long time. She noticed Agnideva in that forest and understood his lustful needs towards the sage's wives. Svaha determined to take the form of all of the sage's wives and intimate with Agni.

Swaha took all the form of the six sage's wives and was intimate with Firegod. But she could not take the form of Arundhati due to the fact of her Ascetic power and intense devotion towards her husband Sage Vasishtha. Svaha after satisfying her wish six times used to disguise herself as a Garudi and leave the forest. She took the semen of Agnideva in her hand and flew towards Sweta Mountain. At the height of the mountain, she found a golden Kund there and put the semen inside it. A mighty toddler was once born out of it. He was named 'Skanda'. He had six heads, twelve eyes ears, and arms and he had one throat and one belly. He was brave, strong, and fierce. He took the divine Dhanush in his hand which Lord Shiva had left there throughout the slaying of the demons and started out roaring. All the animals and human beings were terrified by his form and took shelter from that fearless Skanda. He sat on the peak of the mountain and observed all the deities from all his eyes. Skanda shot the Dhanush against the mountains and those fell screaming on the earth whilst lancinating it.

When the six sages heard about their wives' intimacy with Agnideva, they abandoned them. Garudi went close to his son, confirmed him of being his actual mother, and additionally tried to convince the seven sages about it. But sages did not believe her. However, Vishvamitra by using his Ascetic strength realized the fact of Svaha there he performed Kartikeya's Mangalik Krityam. Even after listening to Vishvamitra, the sages could no longer accept their wives.

Deities were afraid of such a powerful boy. They asked Indra to kill him but Indra did not agree. Deities sent Loka matriarchs to Skanda. They took refuge in the boy and accepted him as their son. Skanda noticed Agnideva approaching there. To shield Skanda, they created a female out of anger. She was holding Trishul weapon and she guarded Skanda there. Indra went there alongside his army of deities. They had a battle with Skanda. Indra attacked Skanda with Vajra or a thunderbolt weapon which injured Skanda and as a result, it created another mighty guy from Skanda's body. Seeing another fierce younger guy, Indra surrendered near Skanda and thrilled Skanda promised his security there. All the Deities were glad. Sages alongside Indra himself asked magnificent Skanda to take the position of Indra and guard all the deities against the Demons. But Skanda denied such a role and respectfully stayed obedient towards Indra. Indra requested him to turn out to be his commander-in-chief for the army of deities there. Skanda agreed.

Indra inaugurated Skanda in such a position. He was worshipped with the aid of sages there. All the Deities along with Lord Shiva and Parvati reached there and offered Skanda gold garland made by Viswakarma. (Agni is a form of Rudra.) Lord Shiva is regarded as Rudra. Hence he was recognized as the son of Lord Shiva there. 'It was known as Rudra had left his semen which grew to become Sweta mountain where the Kritikas put the semen of Agnideva. ' Kartikeya grew to become the son of Lord Shiva. Fire god additionally proficient his son an illuminating Dhwaja there. Indra then remembered Devasena and he requested Kartikeya to wed her.

So this is how Kartikeya grew to be the son of Lord Shiva, married Devasena, and became Devasenapati for Indra. The deserted wives of six sages got the places of Kritikas in the constellation with the aid of the grace of Kartikeya. Svaha later informed her son Skanda related to her feelings for Agnideva. He blessed her that, "hereafter whenever non-secular human beings will offer Havya and Kavya to fire god for their ancestors or any deities, they will take the title 'swaha' there. It will fulfil her desire of being with Firegod also."
