SAVITRI DEFEATED YAMARAJ FOR HER HUSBAND

Savitri brings her husband Satyavan back from Dead

I found the love story of Savitri and Satyavan in the book. It offers an instance of Sati wife's proper dedication towards her husband and his family. She had proved that even a responsible and honest woman like her can also defeat the God of death; Yamaraj by using her everlasting love and devotion towards her husband. The greater surprising reality was, Savitri already knew earlier than her marriage that her to-be husband: Satyavan was about to die soon, Yet she chose solely him. Markandeya sage had elaborated this story to Yudhishtir and other Pandavas during their exile period. Let me take you to that story now.

There was once a king named Aswapati or Asvapati in the Madra kingdom. He was once a truthful, forgiving, and generous king. He did not have any child of his own. After eighteen years of having control over his food, his senses, chanting Gayatri Mantras and offering to Firegod, Devi Savitri was once pleased with him and she wished to provide him with a boon. Aswapati preferred to have sons. As per Brahma's wish, Savitri granted him a girl child. She was named as 'Savitri'. Her skin seemed golden, she looked charming. She reached a younger age. She appeared so wonderful that no one dared to ask the king for Savitri's hand. Hence the king requested her to seek a groom for herself. Savitri looked for her groom in all places and ultimately came to her father.

Naradji heard the whole lot and advised Aswapati that Savitri was unlucky to pick Satyavan as her to-be husband. He referred to Satyavan as no doubt a kindhearted, well-behaved, brave, and straightforward prince however his life was short. Naradji informed Aswapati that Satyavan was about to die within a year. Savitri was completely determined by her decision. Aswapati went to Dyumatsena, gave him his introduction, and gave him the marriage proposal of Savitri and Satyavan. Dyumatsena hesitated at first as Savitri was a princess and she had to leave her luxurious lifestyle and remain with them in that forest. Later he was convinced by the king and Savitri was married to Satyavan. She remembered the prediction of Naradji every day.

Her husband's demise was near. Satyavan was about to die after four days. Hence she took Vrata for three days. She spent those days barring meals and solely by way of standing on her feet. On the fourth day, she worshipped the sun god and offered to the fire god. She prayed to her in-laws and other Brahmins. They all blessed her. Savitri was concerned about the prophecy of Naradji. Her in-laws requested her to eat meals seeing that her Vrata was completed. Savitri instructed them that she would solely devour after fulfilling her wish for which she had taken the Vrata.

That time Satyavan took the axe on his shoulder and prepared to go to the forest. Savitri informed him that she desired to go along with him. As per Satyavan, She took the permission of her in-laws and accompanied him to the forest. Savitri was staring at the activities of her husband whilst keeping in her mind the wordings of Naradji. While chopping the wood, Satyavan felt exhausted and had a headache. He instructed his spouse that he had no energy at that time to stand up even. He was having extreme body aches and headaches. Savitri sat on the earth letting her husband sleep on her lap. At that time god of death appeared there. He gave his introduction to Savitri when she asked him. Also, Yamaraj informed her that he was there to take Satyavan. Terrified Savitri asked him, she had known before that Yamaraj's Dutas were supposed to take human beings from the earth, not the god himself. Yamraj noted to her that, Satyavan used to be so straightforward and pious that he deserved to be taken by Yama only.

After that Yama forcefully took out the soul from his physique and left in the direction of the south. Savitri additionally accompanied him. Because of her Vrata, she was capable to go after Yamaraj.

Yama informed her to go back again however she said to him, "As in line with Sanatan religion, I'd go wherein my husband had long gone. because of having Asceticism, devotion to gurus or elders, Love of my husband, willpower in Vrat, and your's grace, I will in no manner be stopped on my way. As in keeping with wise human beings, those who walk seven steps together grow to be pals. thinking about that friendship I would like to mention to you that, any person who in no way conquered his thoughts or senses, never goes thru Gurukulnivas and painful penance even as being within the wooded area, can not grow to become out as 'Jitendriya'. at the same time as having the awareness of doing the right, top-notch humans gain their virtues. The saintly people bear in mind the greatness of their religion. They determine the Varnashrama-Dharma (four classes of Varnas referred to as Brahmins, Kshatriyas, Vaishyas, and Shudras) as Savarna. therefore there should now not be any Avarnas."

Yama became thrilled with her genuineness and wanted to provide her boon other than Satyavan's life. Savitri wished for her father-in-law to get back his eyes and emerge as glorious as before. Yama granted her the boon and left her. Savitri was nonetheless following him. Yama asked Savitri to get back to her place now as she must be feeling hectic following him for a long time.

Savitri then answered," How can I be exhausted due to the reality that I'm near my husband? I will simplest observe his way. Now I request you to listen to me.

The assembly of saintly humans is regarded as extraordinarily appropriate but Bonding with them is greater than that. it can never be worthless to stay with religious people and it is also beneficial to accomplish that. "

Yama was all over again pleased with her useful statements and desired to offer her second boon besides her husband's life. Savitri wished for her father-in-law to win back his lost kingdom and continue to be saintly always. Yama granted the boon too. Yama asked her to go away but she was still following him.

Savitri stated to him, " Lord! You usually maintain your humans in your guidelines and then according to your desire, you send them to different Lokas. for this reason, you're named 'Yama'. I would like to tell you more that, bearing no malice in the direction of anyone via thoughts, speech, and activities, displaying sympathy to all, and giving donations are the righteousness of all the sensible people. Human beings are short-lived and less powerful. In view that a wonderful saint such as you even show mercy on their enemies then why now not upon human beings like us?"

Yama was delighted with Savitri and wished to offer her third boon apart from her husband's life. Savitri asked for her father Aswapati to be blessed with sons. Yamaraj agreed that he could become the father of a hundred sons. Then Yamaraj requested her to get back.

Savitri insisted on following her husband's simplest. She then instructed Yama, "Thinking about the truth which you are born to Surya, you are honoured as 'Vivasvat'. By way of treating all of your humans with righteousness, you're honoured as 'Dharmaraj'. Human beings in no way love themselves as much as they love non-secular people. through Sauhaard (harmony) people come to be sincere to each other. religious people have this trait in them for which everyone believes them."

satisfied Yama determined to provide her fourth boon. She asked for one hundred sons from Her husband Satyavan. without any second thought, Yama agreed and requested her to return.

Savitri then advised him that, "Saintly humans usually keep their thoughts in religion and by no means be affected by sorrows or distractions. by way of staying with them it in no way become fruitless. no one gets afraid of these virtuous humans.

these wise people via their truthfulness emerge as superb as the sun. They take on this entire earth thru their superb asceticism. They control the past, present, and future. no person should grieve while being accompanied by any saintly person. Sanatan Dharma is established through these people. After being aware of these facts, people cooperate without having egotism. The blessings of non-secular human beings never come out as pointless. nobody loses his self-recognized by their blessings. through maintaining blessings, wealth, and admiration they emerge as the protector of the earth. "

Yama became glad of her generic truth and needed to provide her with another boon. Savitri referred to him that she had already requested him a boon previously which she would like to ask him once more this time. She requested him that except for Satyavan how would it be feasible for her to have one hundred sons. Dharmaraj Yama had already granted her the boon and because of this, he had to return the soul into Satyavan's body.

Yamaraj was moved by way of her dedication towards her husband. He could not take back his boon. He made Satyavan alive and along with that blessed each of them with a lifespan of four hundred years. Savitri went back to the place where her husband was sleeping. She positioned his head on her lap as he was slumbering before Yama reached there. He woke up alive. Both Satyavan and Savitri returned to their hermitage. Later Satyavan came to comprehend Savitri's boons and how did she bring him again from Death. Aswapati was blessed with a hundred sons. Dyumatsena obtained back his eyes. His enemy who had taken his kingdom was killed by his minister. Dyumatsena became the king of Salya again. Savitri gave birth to a hundred fearless sons.
