Pandavas Disguise themselves before entering the Virata Kingdom
Pandavas had already spent twelve years in the forest, as
per the prerequisites made by Kauravas in the course of the Dyutkrida, Pandavas
had to remain unidentified for the thirteenth year of their exile to avoid
another twelve years in the forest. Yudhishthira Announced to all the Brahmins:

Pandavas selected Matsya King Virata's kingdom to remain in

Sairandhri to queen Shudeshna of Virat king. She knew she would remain protected
by the elegant queen. Also, She thought of mentioning to the queen that she was married to five Gandharvas. Yudhishthira named those Gandharvas 'Jaya', 'Jayanta', 'Vijaya', 'Jayatasena' and 'Jayadvala'.
They took instructions from their household priest
Dhaumya for staying inside a Kingdom. Pandavas offered their prayers to and bid
adieu to him. They all left for the kingdom. They had to leave their weapons
before getting into the kingdom. They observed a dense tree in a cemetery close
by and thought of leaving their weapons on it. They climbed up the tree and
tied all their weapons to it. They took a dead body of a one hundred eighty
years old female and hanged her in the tree. Their ancestors used to do this
whilst preserving their weapons secretly. Then they worshipped Devi Durga
before entering the kingdom. She blessed her with success and fortune. Yudhishthira remembered the boon of his father Dharmaraj and offered his prayers to him. They turned into young forceful Brahmins and were blessed by Dharmaraj with clothes, jewellery and ornaments required as per their intended characters. They
entered the kingdom and met Virata king with their modified identifications.
